Yoga at the Beach – The Friends of Rippey Yoga group under the direction of Judy Tomenga will host a “Yoga at the Beach” on Saturday, Aug. 6.
Participants are asked to bring a beach towel and bottle of water and to wear comfortable non-restrictive clothing. It is not necessary to have “yoga clothing”. This is free and open to campers at Spring Lake, or any other interested individuals in Greene County.
This event will begin at 8 am and will last about 60 minutes. It is being organized and sponsored by the Rippey Yoga class.
Individuals who are active Yoga users, or novices are welcome to attend this one time summer event. It will held at the south end of the public beach area of Spring Lake.
Tomenga, a rural Greene County resident is a certified yoga instructor and will lead the group in traditional yoga stretching poses.
The Rippey yoga groups meets every Wednesday at 7:15 am at the Community Room at 7:15 am. All are welcome. Persons who want more information can call Tomenga at 515-240-9014. Reservations are not necessary.
Friends of Rippey fundraiser for Greene County Freedom Rock – The Town and Country Band will present a concert Saturday, Aug. 13, at 6:30 pm in front of the Rippey library. Concert-goers should bring lawn chairs. (The concert will be held in the Community Room in the event of rain.)
The Friends of Rippey are hosting the event and will serve ice cream, with Greene County veterans adding desserts. Donations will be accepted, with all proceeds going to help fund the painting of Greene County’s Freedom Rock.
The band, under the direction of Victoria Chargo, will perform a variety of music, including a salute to veterans. All military veterans are invited to attend and be recognized.
Don Ihnken, commander of VFW Post 9599, will give a brief presentation about the Freedom Rock.
“Everyone is welcome to attend and support this great project for our county,” said Mary Weaver, Friends of Rippey president.

Welcome- The members of the Rippey United Methodist Church welcomed Robert Yelenick as a new member on Sunday, July 31. Robert transferred from the Grinnell United Methodist Church and lives in Perry.
Children’s Sunday school, ladies aid and Lions Club will resume meeting in September.
We are collecting backpacks and goodies for inside. Back to school sales have started. Backpacks will be blessed on Aug. 7 during worship.
Visitors in Rippey – Monica Tenorio of Amarillo, TX, visited in the home of her mother Phyllis Gannon for a few days last week. Jean Borgeson, Connie Neese, Linda Hampton and children Sierra, Sophia and Jayden visited Friday afternoon and was able to get acquainted with other family members who were gathering, also. There were several great-grandchildren to play with and the chance to feed and watch the mama pigs and the little pigs, a first for the Hampton kids. It was a nice afternoon to visit and watch the little ones.
Linda Hampton, Sierra, Sophia and Jayden and Uncle Robert Borgeson arrived safely on Tuesday evening from Chandler, AZ. The last few days have been filled with lots of exploring and experiencing new stuff!
Saturday evening Alan, Sarah, Kane and Kale Borgeson held a family reunion at their home. Those attending were Dean and Elayne Bice of Johnston, Dave, Dena and Anna Losen of Urbandale, Mike, Lara, Maya, Aria, and Will Lissick of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Michael, Jill and Seth Borgeson of Rippey and Robert Borgeson of Jamacia and his friend Mel Searce of Minburn, and Grandma Jean.
Michael, Jill, Jace and Seth hosted a cook-out on Sunday for the family. Attending were Linda Hampton, Sierra, Sophia, and Jayden, Robert and Mel, Alan, Sarah and Kale Borgeson, and Grandma Jean.
The Hampton kids were excited to go to the airport on Monday to meet their dad Blake. The next few days will be filled with exciting things on the farm to show him!
